The newly established IMPRS BeSmart is looking for candidates interested in law and economics as well as in behavioral and experimental economics . The IMPRS BeSmart is hosted by the MPI for Collective Goods in Bonn together with the universities Cologne and Bonn and the international partners University of California at San Diego, ETH Zurich, Norwegian School of Economics NHH and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Collegio Carlo Alberto University (Turin, Italy) is pleased to announce the call for applications for a three-year doctoral programme “IEL – Institutions, Economics and Law International Programme” organised in cooperation with other renowned scientific institutions.

For the academic year starting in winter 2019, 9 places will be available and qualified doctoral students will receive scholarships.

Entrants are invited to apply no later than 16 April (12 PM) this year. Candidates who intend to obtain the Master’s degree by 31 September this year may also take part in the recruitment process on a conditional basis.

The 2019 Summer Institute in Law and Economics at the University of Chicago Law School is in its 8th summer and this year’s organizing theme –Regulation of Consumer Markets – is set as an timely and illuminating topic in which to delve more deeply into the tools and techniques of law and economics. For the past seven summers, experienced and more junior scholars/academics as well judges, policy makers, and advanced students have come to University of Chicago Law School to engage in two weeks of rigorous course work and debate. In addition to the four intensive courses, there are special lectures and an opportunity to present non-published academic works in progress.

Call for Papers: Conference on Data Science and Law
7-8 June 2019, ETH Zürich, Switzerland

In recent years, the digitization of legal texts and developments in statistics and computer science have paved the way for new methodological approaches in the area of data science and law. This constellation of new data and methods has created exciting opportunities for progress on old questions as well as the prospect of opening entirely new areas in empirical legal scholarship.

The Conference on Data Science and Law will convene researchers across disciplines who are interested in this burgeoning field. Scholars in law, social and behavioral sciences, digital humanities, computer science, machine learning, and data analytics are invited to present works-in-progress in all areas of empirical legal studies that involve big data sources or use data science techniques, including natural language processing, machine learning, algorithmic fairness, topic modeling, or network analysis. The purpose of the conference is to highlight the best and most innovative scholarship in data science and law and to help build an intellectual community in support of this new field. Works that are descriptive in nature are invited as well as research that focuses on causal inference.

The workshop will be held at ETH Zürich, Switzerland on June 7–8, 2019. Molly Roberts (UCSD) will give a keynote on her research in this area. Researchers are invited to submit unpublished working papers for presentation at the conference by February 12th, 2019. Papers will be selected through a peer review process. While full drafts are recommended, we will accept and review extended abstracts.

The 6th International Workshop on Economic Analysis of Litigation will be hosted by the University of Granada, Spain, on next June 24-25, 2019.

Objectives of the workshop: 
The aim of this meeting is to bring together economists and lawyers to discuss the problems of justice, courts’ functioning and the litigation process. This year, the organizers would like to put particular emphasis on the assessment of the Quality of Justice and its interaction with society and economic activity.
A selection of papers will be considered for publication on a special section of the International Review of Law and Economics.

Topics:
The organizing committee encourages submissions of both theoretical and empirical works, especially in the following topics: Quality of Justice, Quality of Judicial Decisions, Constitutional Courts, Judicial Independence, Judicial Institutions and the Economy, Judicial Performance, Courts’ Organization, Judicial Decision-Making, Litigation Process, Comparative Judicial Systems.
