Funded PhD Opportunity at Ulster University

The Doctoral College of Ulster University is offering a scholarship for a PhD student at the School of Applied Social and Policy Sciences. The PhD student should work under the supervision of Dr. Michele Gazzola and Prof. Gordon Marnoch on the topic “The Multilingual Public Administration“. We are looking for an outstanding student in economics, law and economics, public policy, or political science. The scholarships will cover tuition fees and a maintenance award of £14,777 per annum for three years. Applications are invited from UK, European Union and overseas students. The PhD should start in September 2019.

International Workshop in Law and Economics: Open Innovation

The Centre of Legal Research of Grenoble (Université Grenoble Alpes), and the Grenoble Applied Economics Lab (Université Grenoble Alpes, INRA, CNRS and Grenoble INP) will hold an International Workshop in Law and Economics. Focused on Open Innovation and forms of intellectual property rights (IPRs) and/or contractual arrangements that may enable the sharing of knowledge and innovation, this workshop will be held on June 13-14, 2019, in Grenoble (France).

Topics of interest for submission include, but are not limited to:
– Open source licenses,
– Patent clearinghouses,
– Patent pools,
– IPRs on Digital Goods,
– IPRs on plants,
– IPRs and incentives to innovate.

A special session will be scheduled for doctoral students.

Two keynote lectures will be delivered by the Professors Paul Belleflamme  (CORE, Université catholique de Louvain) and Geertrui Van Overwalle (CiTiP, K.U. Leuven).

A round table will be organized at the end of each day. The first will deal with the role of open innovation in plant breeding and agricultural research, the second will address open innovation in academic research.

Please note that there is no registration fee for the presenting authors.

The deadline for submitting papers is January 15th, 2019.

Notification of acceptance by the Scientific Committee and detailed instructions will be provided to presenting authors by March 15th, 2019.

Workshop in Law and Economics, Cairo, Egypt.

The Faculty of Law at the British University in Egypt (BUE) is holding its first workshop on Law and Economics in collaboration with the Institute of Law and Economics at Hamburg University (ILE). The workshop will be held on Sunday, 24 March 2019 at the British University in Egypt campus at Sherouk City, Cairo.

The workshop strives to give an introduction to Economic Analysis of the Law in an interactive workshop. The workshop will feature sessions at which scholars and professionals in the area of Law and Economics will be invited to give presentations. After each presentation discussions will be held. This workshop will expose speakers, guests and faculty members to some of the
insights Law and Economics can provide in several branches of law and policy areas.

6th International Meeting in Law &Economics

EconomiX (CNRS and Paris Nanterre), the Paris Center for Law & Economics (Paris 2 Panthéon-Assas), the Laboratoire d’Economie Dionysien (Paris 8 Vincennes-St Denis), ERUDITE (Paris Est-Créteil), and the Center for Economics of Paris Nord (CNRS and Paris 13 Villetaneuse) will jointly organize the: 6th International Meeting in Law & Economics, on April 18-19, 2019. The workshop in 2019 will be organized on the Campus of Nanterre.

The organization of this international conference dedicated to Law & Economics aims at establishing an annual meeting in order to attract top Law & Economics scholars on a regular basis in Ile-de-France, and to promote sustained interactions with the French scholars also interested in these topics. The workshop consists in 8 thematic sessions of 2 papers; this allows each speaker to have 45 minutes in all, and enables longer discussions with the audience than what is nowadays possible during the international conferences in the field.

Submissions must be sent before January 14, 2019, in a pdf format, and by email to Eric.Langlais@parisnanterre.fr . Papers (completed, or at least in preliminary draft) using various methodologies (theoretical, empirical, or experimental) and related to any topics of Law & Economics are welcome, including: Economics of Procedures, Litigations, Law and Finance, Entrepreneurship, Economics of Competition Law, Tort Law and Liability Rules, Law Enforcement and Economics of Crime, Constitutional Law and Political Economics, Intellectual Property and Innovation, Contracts and Law. The selection of papers will be made before February 7, 2019.

17th German Law and Economics Association Annual Conference

The German Law and Economics Association (Gesellschaft für Recht und Ökonomik e.V) is honoured to announce that 17th edition of the annual conference will take place on July 11-12, 2019 in Hannover (Leibniz-Fachhochschule – School of Business). The main lecture of the conference “Competition and Cartel Law in the Digital Age” will be delivered by prof. dr. Justus Haucap from the Düsseldorf Institute for Competition Economics and the Heinrich Heine University. The conference fee is 100 €.

The organizers also invite scholars to send scientific articles that will be presented at the conference – the deadline is February 26, 2019,  and decisions about qualifying or rejecting will be forwarded by the end of March. The organizers also provide financial support (partial coverage of costs) for young researchers wishing to take part in the event.

EMLE Midterm Meeting 2019: call for papers

The Institute of Law & Economics (ILE), Law School, Universität Hamburg, is proud to host the Midterm Meeting of the European Master in Law & Economics Programme in Hamburg on 14-16 February 2019.

Scholars in the field of Law & Economics and Empirical Legal Studies are invited to present their research at the academic conference on 15 February 2019.

Please submit your paper or abstract as PDF-file to mtm19info@emle.org. Please indicate “MTM paper submission” as subject of the email. Priority in the selection process will be given to completed papers.

The deadline to submit a paper or abstract is 15 December 2018. We will send notifications of acceptance before Mid-January.

The academic conference on 15 February 2019 will commence at 9:00 am and continue until 5:30 pm. The conference will include a key lecture in the morning by Dr. Andreas Dressel, Hamburg’s Senator for Finance. The day will be concluded by a formal conference dinner. The conference schedule will be available at the end of January 2019.

There will be no conference fee or any other costs for presenters associated with attending the academic programme. In addition, ILE will provide complimentary refreshments and lunch during the conference.

Hotel accommodation will be provided to speakers whose papers are selected for presentation.

Workshops of the Ronald Coase Institute in May 2019 in Warsaw

Ronald Coase Institute announced that the next edition of the workshop on institutional analysis will take place on May 12-18 in Warsaw. 26 young scientists and advanced PhD students in social sciences will be able to take part in the workshop. Participants will be selected based on submitted abstracts of articles and references.

The cost of participation in the event is 2500 USD. The organizers intend to grant scholarships to selected participants. The deadline for submitting applications is January 19, 2019. More information is available in the information brochure and on the Institute’s website.

WINIR2019 Conference – first details

World Interdisciplinary Network (WINIR) for Institutional Research and the Lund University (Sweden) inform that the WINIR2019 conference will take place on 19-22 September 2019 at the Lund University. The event will be dedicated to contemporary challenges and dynamics of the economic, political, legal and social institutions of our time.

Complete session proposals must be received by 14 December 2018.  In December the organizers will open a call for individual papers.
